Mysterious Mirror Flower Trees

Mysterious Mirror Flower Trees is a large-scale outdoor glass landscape installation created for the Mysterious Garden project in Huangshan, Anhui Province. Located near the Xin’an River and the Huashan Mysterious Grottoes, the work responds to its natural and cultural surroundings through a romantic path of light, glass, and sculptural flowers.

 

The installation is composed of oversized floral forms made from Liuli glass, borosilicate glass tubes, stainless steel, and steel structures. The petals are kiln-cast or kiln-bent in golden Liuli or borosilicate glass, while the stems are formed from stainless steel with an aged surface finish. Steel plates are bent to create the flower bases, and concrete with reinforced steel is used for the embedded foundation, ensuring stability in outdoor conditions.

 

Each flower tree reaches approximately five meters in height, with a diameter of 1.8 to 2 meters. Arranged in groups of three, the works form a sequence of three to four clusters along the garden path. During the day, visitors experience the sculptural presence and saturated colors of the glass flowers; at night, the installation is activated by a neutral 4000K light source, transforming the path into an immersive field of glowing blossoms.

 

The enlarged floral forms are intentionally different from the surrounding natural vegetation. They create a sense of wonder and transcendence, while still remaining connected to the landscape. Through the combination of traditional Liuli kiln-casting, kiln-bending techniques, metalwork, and lighting design, the work offers visitors a poetic and interactive journey through a luminous garden.
